The Big Insect Rescue Manifesto

The Big Insect Rescue Manifesto

Insects underpin the foundations of life, but the next Welsh government will decide on whether they disappear, or thrive.

But it is not too late to save insects. Together alongside our supporters, we have created a Big Insect Rescue Plan. Five proven steps to insect recovery grounded in scientific evidence, that are focused on the change our communities and insects need to see.

We need your help to demand that the newly elected Government play their part in this rescue mission.

Ask the new Government to use their power to:

  • Champion a pesticide-free future
  • Fund nature-friendly farming practices
  • Clean up rivers and water for good
  • Create and connect spaces for insects to live
  • Build nature into the heart of development

Ask the New Welsh Government to Save Butterflies and Moths

Insects underpin the foundations of life, but the new Welsh government will decide on whether they disappear or thrive.

Together alongside voters, we have created a rescue plan, grounded in scientific evidence, that is focused on the change our communities and insects need to see.

In 2025, 87 organisations representing the voice of nature across the country, united to sign the Bristol Declaration, sounding the alarm about the drastic decline of insect populations.

The causes of declines are well-evidenced and, acting cumulatively, have pushed many insect species toward extinction. Their disappearance threatens the resilience of the healthy ecosystems we depend upon for clean water, fertile soil, and food security. We need insects – and they now need you.

Reversing insect decline is essential for halting nature loss and achieving the UK’s climate and biodiversity goals. There is no opt out when it comes to the future of our ecosystems.

It is not too late to save insects. Include these five measures to save insects within your plans and play your part in the Big Insect Rescue.
